'Never Say Die!: Celebrating 50 Years Of Black Sabbath' Immersive Exhibition To Open In Los Angeles This Week
October 17, 2018Home Of Metal has partnered with Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles to present "Never Say Die!: Celebrating 50 Years Of Black Sabbath". This immersive exhibition features portraits from the Home Of Metal BLACK SABBATH fan archive, historical photos, ephemera, and memorabilia sourced directly from the bandmembers, and a group art exhibition.
Formed in Aston, Birmingham England in 1968 and cited as the pioneers and godfathers of heavy metal, BLACK SABBATH was founded by Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward. From humble beginnings, BLACK SABBATH created a new sound, a new aesthetic, and a new culture — heavy metal. Fifty years later, we celebrate the band, their impact on music and the fans that turned BLACK SABBATH and heavy metal into a global phenomenon.
The exhibition aims to showcase how the music of four working-class men from Aston, Birmingham, U.K. captured the hearts and minds of fans globally and inspired an entire genre of music, art, culture and community.

In conjunction with the opening of "Never Say Die!", Subliminal Projects has teamed up with iconic Los Angeles rock venue The Echo for a special concert following the opening reception.
"BLACK SABBATH are the forefathers of heavy metal and are loved throughout the world," said Lisa Meyer, director of Home Of Metal. "We are delighted to be launching our next phase of Home Of Metal in Los Angeles with this exhibition and look forward to bringing it back to Birmingham next summer."
Added Shepard Fairey a.k.a. Obey Giant: "BLACK SABBATH has been one of my all-time favorite bands for decades and I think it's only fitting that we celebrate 50 years of the masters of reality. I'm proud to be part of this show and to bring this to Subliminal Projects and Echo Park all the way from Birmingham."
An ambitious cultural project, Home Of Metal celebrates the forefathers of heavy metal, BLACK SABBATH, and the music inspired by them, which has left a distinct mark on popular culture, and created a dedicated global following.
Home Of Metal's exhibitions and events join the dots between music, social history, visual art and fan cultures to produce a new perspective on heavy metal; one that is celebratory, eschews notions of high/low art and joins audiences and performers together.
The summer of 2019 will see a large-scale program of events across Birmingham, U.K., including a major exhibition at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery exploring the legacy of BLACK SABBATH as well as contemporary exhibitions with artists Ben Venom, Alan Kane and Monster Chetwynd.
